The Hot Gates is a collection of essays by Golding, written during the decade previous to publication. It is divided into four sections: "People and Places", "Books", "Westward Look" and "Caught in a Bush", and contains writings on his childhood and books, including his essay "Fable in which he answers questions about his most famous novel Lord of the Flies.


The book is in very good condition, the dustwrapper has some light chipping to the edges and corners but is otherwise sound.
