Volume 3 of this complete set belonged to Sir David Willcocks who has signed the front pastedown. David Willcocks was a British choral conductor, organist, composer and music administrator. He was particularly well known for his association with the Choir of King's College, Cambridge. Pages 132–143 of this volumes containing Exsurge, Domine has been comprehensively annotated by Willcocks in pencil as part of his Tudor Church Music series for OUP with Peter Le Huray, which was edited by E H Fellowes.

A comprehensive collection of William Byrd's vocal works, edited by Edmnd H Fellowes, a churchman and music scholar who promoted the revival of sixteenth and seventeenth century English music. Each volume is indexed. The books are:

Volume 1: 1937. 282pp. Contains Masses for Three, Four and Five Voices, The Cantiones Sacrae (1575). Covers faded to spine and rubbed to baords, small scuff to front joint and spine ends. Internally very good.

Volume 2: 1937. 216pp. Contains Cantionaes Sacrae (1589). 213pp. Boards rubbed and marked a bit but internally very good.

Volume 3: 1937. 236pp. Contains Cantionaes Sacrae (1591). As mentioned this was David Willcocks copy with his annotations. Spine faded and boards rubbed. Internally very good.

Volume 4: 1938. 205pp. Contains Gradualia (part I) (1605). A good copy, light wear to the boards, some fading to the spine and darkening to the rear board. Internally very good.

Volume 5: 1938. 213pp. Contains Gradualia (parts II & III) (1605). A good copy, some light rubbing to the boards and fading to the spine and wear to the spine ends. Internally very good.

Volume 6: 1938. 155pp. Contains Gradualia (part I) (1607). A decent copy with some light wear to the head of the spine. Internally very good.

Volume 7: 1938. 161pp. Contains Gradulaia(part II) (1607). Somelight marking to the front board, otherwise very good.

Volume 8: 1939. 175pp. Contains Motets for Three, Four and Five Voices (Recovered from Manuscript). A good copy with some rubbing to the boards. Internally very good.

Volume 9: 1939. 169pp. Contains Motets for Six, Eight and Nine Voices (Recovered from Manuscript). A good copy, bumped a little with a small nick to the cloth at the head of the spine. Internally very good.

Volume 10: 1948. 255pp. Contains English Liturgical Music. Small nick in the cloth to the front joint. Boards rubbed to the edges. Internally good bar some light spotted foxing to the prelims.

Volume 11: 1948. 237pp. Contains English Anthems. Front board rubbed and marked, corners bumped but internally very good.

Volume 12: 1948. 215pp. Contains Psalmes, Sonets and Songs (1588). A very god copy, with light bumping to the boards and a light crease to the lower front corner. Internally very good.

Volume 13: undated, 1948. Contains Songs of Sundrie Natures (1589). There is some light marking to the front board and foxed to the top edge, otherwise a decent copy.

Volume 14: 1949. 239pp. Contains Psalmes, Songs and Sonnets (1611). A very good copy with light rubbing and markign to the boards. Internally very good.

Volume 15: 1948. 168pp. Contains Songs. A good copy but with some light white markings to the front board. Internally, very good.

Volume 16: 1948. 153pp. Contains Additional Madrigals, Canons and Rounds, Apendix (Fragments of Text). A good copy, with some light white markings to the front board, internally very good.

Volume 17: 1948. 121pp. (Supplement) Contains Chamber Music for Strings. A good copy, has similar markings to front board, internally very good.

Condition

Volumes 1–9 have faded spine, all have a small or moderate amount of wear to the spine ends and some have rubbing to the board and shelfwear. Some foxing to the pages' top edge. All books are in very good condition internally, with clean pages and secure binding with volume 3 noted as having David Willcocks' annotations. Please read above details for each volume's condition. Overall, a very serviceable set of this scarce complete collection.
