A biography Sir Hector MacDonald, the distinguished Victorian soldier, known as Fighting Mac. He distinguished himself in action at Omdurman (1898) becoming a popular hero in Scotland and England, and was knighted for his service in the Second Boer War. He served as Commander-in-Chief of British forces in Ceylon. He committed suicide in 1903 following accusations of homosexual activity with local boys.
A good reading copy. The book is a trifle dulled and bumped to the corners but the inscription makes it rather more interesting.
