Printing Details

First edition, hardback, cloth spine and paper covered boards, paper title labels to front and spine, with spare labels to rear. 19 × 13cm, 73pp.

Signed by the author to the half-title, "To Sybil and Lewis, in admiration from the author, Hubert Griffith" and dated by him April 14th 1924. Sybil and Lewis in this instance are Dame Sybil Thorndike and her husband Lewis Casson.

A scarce first edition of a play set in September 1918 during the allied offensive on the Western Front in the Great War. The action takes place in a section of the front called Tunnel Trench and main players are RAF pilots flying off on their missions during last months of the war. The author served as both soldier and airman in the war and the Tommies are not forgotten.

The book is quite heavily worn but still in good shape. There is fraying to the rear joint and overall rubbing and bumping to the boards. The book lacks the ffep, and is stamped twice by the British Theatre Association. The pages are clean if a little age-toned and the binding is secure. Quite a rare find, especially so signed by the author.
