Two major short novels by William Trevor in one book. In Reading Turgenev an Irish country girl is trapped in a loveless marriage with an older man, but finds release through secret meetings with a man who shares her passion for Russian novels. My House in Umbria tells of Emily Delahunty, a writer of romantic novels, who helps the survivors of a bomb attack on a train to convalesce, inventing colourful pasts for her patients.
The book itself is in very good condition, with some light bumping to the base of the spine. The pages are clean and the binding secure but of a print quality expected of proof editions. The dustwrapper (a few millimetres taller than the book) is in good condition but is sunned to the spine and a little creased to the top edge where it juts over. Quite a scarce copy.
