Printing Details

Limited large-paper edition, one of four hundred and seventy copies. Hardback, bound in the original burgundy buckram with paper title label to spine. 26.5 × 18cm, lx + 256pp.

Our Village is a collection of about 100 literary sketches of rural life written by Mary Russell Mitford (1787–1855), and originally published during the 1820s and 1830s. The series first appeared in The Lady's Magazine. The vivid series was based upon life in Three Mile Cross, a hamlet in the parish of Shinfield (south-east of Reading in Berkshire), where she lived. This edition has 100 illustrations by Hugh Thomson.

A good copy in solid condition, but with some wear. The buckram has quite heavy mottled fading mostly to the spine but also to the boards edges. The endpapers are browned. The main body of text is in very good order with clean pages and secure binding. An attractive copy and scarce to find signed.
