Printing Details

First Australian edition, first printing. Hardback in dustwrapper (no price given on wrapper). 22 × 14cm, 229pp.

Signed and dedicated by the author directly to the title, "With kindest regards to the Bestons, Tom Keneally"

A rare signed first edition of the author's second novel (rewritten in 1989 as By the Line). Set in wartime Australia, it is the story of Danny Jordan, a young Catholic boy who is compelled to face the problems set by adults in an adult world. Next door to Danny live the Mantles, through whom he is to learn more about life, death, and fear, than is right for a small boy. Thomas Keneally described the books as "the obligatory account of one's childhood."

A decent copy. The book has slightly tanned pages and some minor bumping to the boards. The dustwrapper slight loss to the head and tail of the spine, and a few small closed tears to the top edge. It is now within a protective sleeve.

Please note: Due to the recent price rise from USPS, we will be putting our postage rates to USA up for which we apologise but have no choice.
