Songs South of the Line (Signed copy)
Signed by Rupert Croft-Cooke, cover by Norman Hartnell
First edition, limited to 400 copies. Card covers in wrapper. 21.5 × 14cm. 39pp + 2pp ads.
Signed and dedicated in pencil to the ffep, "For Dorothy with love from Rupert", also enclosed is a handwritten letter from Rupert to Dorothy, on headed notepaper from The Galleon Press in Rochester.
An early book of poetry from Rupert Croft-Cooke, published shortly after his return from Argentina in 1925. The cover illustration is an early example of work by Norman Hartnell, the fashion designer.
This is a heavily worn copy but a nice copy to have signed. The book itself is foxed throughout but mostly to the endpapers, and the stapled binding has rusted (although all pages remain securely bound). The dustwrapper has significant loss to the thin spine but the cover illustration is in good order. The wrapper is now in a protective sleeve which although a little ungainly, does afford it some protection.
